Some key points from report on IPG's
Greetings to all IPG's There is an excellent report published by the Canadian Pharmacists Association titled: Integration of International Pharmacy Graduates into the Canadian Pharmacy Workforce: Barriers and Facilitators. I highly recommend all IPG's read the report prior to doing the PEBC's (It is posted by the administrator on the links page under the Canadian Health Care System heading as a .pdf) Here are some key points: Most pharmacy employers felt that barriers for IPGs did exist, particularly related to language and communication skills. The top barriers to IPG's success identified by employers were lack of proficiency in communicating effectively with patients and clients, lack of proficiency in spoken English or French, lack of proficiency in written English or French, and lack of proficiency in communicating effectively with other pharmacy staff and other health care providers. Fig 2-9 Observed Pass Rates of IPG's in the PEBC examination (total 2002-2006), First Attempts, Repeaters and Total (I have tried to insert a table, but I am unable to) Evaluating Exam - pass rate for IPGs at all sittings: 59% Qualifying Exam Part 1 - pass rate for IPGs at all sittings: 49% (first attempt: 44%) Qualifying Exam Part 2 - pass rate for IPGs at all sittings: 45% (first attempt: 39%) I don't want to discourage any IPGs to take these examinations, but they are expensive exams and you must not underestimate the difficulty of these exams. Paul
