Licensing in Ontario

Hi. I recently passed the Evaluation exam (Jan 2009) and am planning to appear for the MCQ and OSCE in November 2009, after completing the IPG program at the University of Toronto. I am currently on a student visa, and I intend to register in Ontario.

I would like to know if it is possible to obtain registration in Ontario, if I do NOT have the status of Permanant Resident/Citizen of Canada. I have read through the OCPinfo website, but have been unable to ascertain the above.

Thanx

Ontario Licensing: Visa Requirements

With a student visa you are generally only permitted to remain in Canada for study purposes. To work in Canada, even as a student, requires a work permit. As such I would think as a minimum, to become licensed as a pharmacist in Canada, you would need to obtain a work permit.

It would be best to contact OCP and immigration Canada to discuss your specific situation.

Good luck,
Mat

Hi there.

You need to be physically present in Canada, in order to do the program, because it is an ON-CAMPUS program. I am not an immigrant, and came to Canada on a temporary-resident (Visitor Visa), in order to appear for the Stage 1 Evaluation Exam in Jan 2009. After passing the exam and obtaining a letter of success in the Evaluation exam from the PEBC, I applied for the IPG program and was accepted (you have to submit proof of english fluency and CAD 250 with the application, in addition).

After obtaining the acceptance letter for the IPG program (from Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto), I applied for a student's visa, because you need the student visa to undergo the IPG program.

Hope this was helpful, and would be happy to provide more information regarding the matter.

All the best.
